Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training (RQF)

The City and Guilds Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (RQF) is a teaching qualification which extends into investigation and research into current practice, theories and models relating to education and training. Throughout the programme candidates will need to demonstrate an ability to transfer the findings from their research into their own teaching practice.

This qualification is for those individuals who work or who want to work as teachers/ trainers in the further education and skills sector. Candidates should be considering a subject for delivery and be aiming to achieve, or have achieved a qualification and/or have experience in your subject or skill at the appropriate level.

Requirements


In order to complete this qualification candidates must:

  • Be a minimum of 19 years of age
  • Be qualified, proficient or experienced in the subject in which they intend to teach
  • Have access to a minimum of 100 hours teaching practice in their own work environment
  • Take an initial assessment of their literacy, mathematics and ICT skills.

Delivery/Assessment Methods


  • 1 x initial classroom induction day to familiarise candidates with mandatory units
  • Optional units best suited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience and career goals will also be discussed and selected during the initial classroom input
  • Both mandatory and optional units to be completed via distance learning with online support
  • 8 hours of observations in the candidate’s own work environment
  • Assignments to be completed and included in a portfolio of evidence which must cover all assessment criteria of the units selected
  • Candidates will be expected to apply and show evidence of both theoretical and practical knowledge in their portfolio.

Course Contents


The City and Guilds Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training will enable candidates to take a practical and analytical approach to all aspects of training and education, from planning and designing learning through to teaching, assessing and supporting learners. Candidates will also cover the theories and principles of education and training and be given the opportunity to embed these in their own teaching.

  • Teaching, learning and assessment in education and training
  • Developing teaching, learning and assessment in education and training
  • Theories, principles and models in education and training; and
  • Wider professional practice and development in education and training. 

Optional units best suited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience and career goals will be discussed and selected during the initial classroom input.
