Level 4 Certificate in Education & Training (RQF)

The QNUK Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (RQF) is a first stage teaching qualification that gives individuals a fundemental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher / trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners. 

It includes the use of initial and diagnostic assessments and requires candidates to plan and deliver inclusive teaching and learning, carry out assessments and use resources effectively.

Requirements


In order to complete this qualification candidates must: 

  • Be a minimum of 19 years of age 
  • Be qualified, proficient or experienced in the subject in which they intend to teach
  • Have access to a minimum of 30 hours teaching practice in their own work environment
  • Take an initial assessment of their literacy, mathematics and ICT skills.

Delivery/Assessment Methods


  • 5 day classroom block to cover the course mandatory units
  • Optional units via distance learning with online support
  • 3 x 1 hour observations in the candidates own work environment
  • Assignments to be completed and included in a portfolio of evidence which must cover all assessment criteria of the units selected
  • Candidates will be expected to apply and show evidence of both theoretical and practical knowledge in their portfolio.

Course Contents


The QNUK Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (RQF) has been designed to prepare trainee teachers to teach in a wide range of contexts. It requires observation and assessment of practice and the range of optional units available provide opportunities to contextualise the qualification for different learning environments. 

Mandatory units:

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
  • Planning to meet the needs of learners in education and training
  • Delivering education and training
  • Assessing learners in education and training; and 
  • Using resources for education and training.

Optional units best suited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience and career goals will be discussed and selected during the initial classroom input.
